Aside from the big systems added by Update 6 for Elder Scrolls Online, the newest patch also did a lot of rebalancing. We will go over some of these changes, namely changes to how Criticals now work, AoE effects and gaining Ultimate. Regardless if you are new or a seasoned ESO account holder, this article can help you.

Critical changes ESO Account holders should know

Prior to Update 6, it was relatively easily to improve the chances of landing Critical Hits on your TESO account. Before, every ten points of Critical Strike or Spell Critical will give your character a +1% chance to hit critically. This has been changed however.

In Update 6, the amount needed to increase your Critical Hit chance by 1% goes up with the character’s level. Items has also been adjusted accordingly. For example, Precise Weapons used by characters who are too high level for it will have a lesser effect.  Note however that all characters now have a base Critical Hit chance of 10%, while the 50% bonus damage remains.

Another change to this mechanic is how Critical Resistance works. It now reduces the amount of damage taken from a Critical Hit instead of the chances of getting hit by one. It can however completely nullify Critical Hit damage. Elder Scrolls Online account holders need to have a Critical Resistance score of 50 * (character level + veteran rank) in order to receive no extra damage from Critical Hits.

More AoE targets for ESO Account holders

Players running AoE intensive builds will notice that they can hit more targets now.  This is thanks to Update 6’s removal of hard caps on the maximum number of targets an AoE ability can have. Note however that the damage dealt has been adjusted. Only the first 6 targets receive full damage, while the next 24 receive only half. The remaining targets, if there are any, will only take a quarter of the damage done by the ability. Additionally, only the first 6 targets receive any secondary effects the ability applies.

New ways to gain Ultimate on your ESO Account

Gaining Ultimate is now easier in Update 6. This resource is now gained in threes through a buff that lasts eight seconds. The buff is placed/refreshed on characters that successfully use light or heavy attacks. Healing a damaged ally will also trigger the buff as will blocking, dodging or attacking targets with a damage shield.
